Aadhaar card is a unique 12-digits identification document which is given by the Government of India under UIDAI.

This number is provided by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and acts as verification of identity and address for every Indian citizen.

Indian citizens can e aadhar card download with these four methods. Step by Step guide for each method is given below:

Annoucment: According to the Aadhaar Act, the E-Aadhar card has the same validity as a physical Aadhaar card for all functions.

Via UIDAI (MyAadhaar Portal)

  1. Visit the official website with this link: myaadhar.uidai.gov in.
  2. After website opens, click on the Download Aadhaar button.
  3. On the Download Aadhar page enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number, 16-digit Virtual ID Number, or 28-digit Enrolment ID Number correctly.
  4. If you have personal Adhaar card number, write it; otherwise, enter VID or EID.

The 28-digit Enrolment ID (EID) is provided at time of applying to help track your application status. Once the Aadhar is approved, a 12-digit Unique Identification Number (UID), commonly known as the Aadhaar number, is issued, which acts as valid proof of identity and address.

  1. After entering Aadhaar number, click on the ‘Get OTP’ button and you will receive an OTP on registered mobile number with UIDAI.
  2. Enter the OTP on webpage and Tap on the ‘Verify and Download’ button.
  3. Your Aadhaar card will be saved to your device.

If your phone number is not registered with your Aadhaar, then you will need to go to nearest Aadhar Services Center to modify personal details.

Please be advised: In the event that you have misplaced your Aadhaar number or enrolment ID, you may utilize the ‘Retrieve EID/Aadhaar number‘ feature by providing your name, mobile number, or email address, and subsequently obtain it through the OTP.

Via mAadhaar Mobile Application

Follow these steps; if you want to download Aadhar card through MAadhar app:

  • Step 1: First of all download the MAdahar app on your device. This application is available on both Android and iOS service hub.
  • Step 2: After downloading open the application and register your username and mobile number with OTP.
  • Step 3: Once the registration is complete, you will reach the app dashboard. Here you can check Download Aadhaar option. Click on it.

  • Step 4: There you can see two options, Regular Aadhaar and Masked Aadhaar. Select one according to your needs.

– Standard Aadhaar_ Shows the complete Aadhaar number.
– Masked Aadhaar_ Hides initial 8 digits of the Aadhaar number.

  • Step 5: Write your Aadhaar Number, VID Number, or Enrolment ID Number with correct details, and fill in captcha to avoid scam.

  • Step 7: Once you have entered the OTP, click on the ‘Open’ tab. Your Aadhaar card will now download in PDF format on your mobile phone.

Steps to Download Aadhaar via DigiLocker

Downloading your Aadhaar card via DigiLocker saves you from carrying physical copies, while ensuring both authenticity and easy access.

  1. Log in to DigiLocker
    • Visit the DigiLocker website (digilocker.gov.in) online or access it through the DigiLocker mobile app on your phone.
    • Enter your mobile number, Aadhaar number and username to log into portal.
  2. Broswe to Aadhaar Services
    • When you have logged in, select the ‘Search Document’ option and look for ‘Aadhaar Card’.
    • Click on the Aadhar card option there.
  3. Provide Aadhaar Details
    • Input your Aadhaar number along with the OTP sent to your registered phone number to gain access to your Aadhaar card.
  4. Download Your Aadhaar
    • After OTP verification, DigiLocker will search for Aadhar card details through UIDAI.
    • After successfully fetching your card, your Aadhaar card will be inside “Issued Document” section.
    • You can download it in PDF form there anytime.

Via the UMANG Portal

If you are Aadhaar card holder and wish to download it via the UMANG portal, please follow these steps:

Step 1: Open your chrome and visit UMANG portal at web.umang.gov.in.

  • If you are opening it for the first time, you need to register yourself by providing your mobile number or email ID.
  • Create a robust password to protect your UMANG account.
  • To complete your registration, a verification email will be sent to your mobile number and email number, verify it.
  • Log in using your credentials, If you already have an account.

Step 2: When you login successfully, you will see a dashboard related to Aadhaar services.

Step 3: Find ‘Aadhaar’ section from here and Click on it to start services.

Step 4: Further, within the My Aadhaar section, you will see more related list of Aadhaar services.

  • Update Aadhaar
  • Check Aadhaar Status
  • Locate Enrolment Centers
  • Download Aadhaar

Step 5: Select the ‘Download Aadhaar’ option to continue. A new page will open asking to enter your Aadhaar number or VID (Virtual ID)..

Step 6: Ensure you enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number details correctly.

Step 7: After entering number, you will receive an OTP at registered mobile number.

Step 8: Enter the OTP for verification, then click the ‘Verify & Download’ button.

Step 9: Your e-Aadhaar will be created and saved as a PDF file.

Note down: Aadhaar PDF you downloaded is secured with a password. To access it, enter first four letters of your name in uppercase (as indicated on Aadhaar) followed by your birth year (YYYY).

E-Aadhaar Password

Aadhaar password is generally needed to access the password-protected PDF file of your Aadhaar e-card. This password consists of an 8-character combination based from your personal information.

Note it: Your Aadhar card first four letter will be used as password to open the Aadhar PDF (as per Aadhaar) in uppercase.

Guideline to change password format has been changed in 2019 for Aadhar PDF. Previously, the password required to access Aadhaar e-PDF was PIN code linked to your registered address.

Nevertheless, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) implemented the present format, which consists of initial four letters of your name (in uppercase) along with your year of birth in this format (YYYY). The updated format helps make the password system very secure for Indians.
